How much longer are we going to let this go on? Whales and Dolphins may not matter to everyone but the fact is; whales and dolphins are becoming more and more endangered because of whaling unless we do something.
Some reasons:
What kind of country would America be if we let illegal whaling either become legal again or not try and stop it!
23,000 dolphins are killed every year by Japan in one single cove by about 23 men from September 1st to March. Japan is saying they are killing them for “cultural” reasons but the funny thing is.. the people of Japan have no idea about this so called “culture”. Not to mention that Dolphin meat has been proven to be highly contaminated with toxins such as Mercury. If too much Mercury is ingested into the human body; babies can be deformed, people can become autistic, lose their hearing or sight, and die. And the kicker, this dolphin meat is being GIVEN (because no one wants it and they cant sell it) to schools in Japan as well as developing countries school system. By Japan with holding all this information from it’s people is a violation of Article 21 of their Constitution.
Scientist speculate that whales and dolphins are either as smart or smarter than humans. The world defines intelligence as “the ability to live in harmony with your natural world”. Frankly whales and dolphins, by that definition, are smarter than we are.
Whales and dolphins are one of the only other animal besides us that are self-aware, meaning they can look in the mirror and no it is them. And also are some of the only animals besides humans who can physically and consciously commit suicide like humans can. Whales and Dolphins don’t have automatic breathing like we do so they have to consciously remember to come up and breath air. Or they can choose not to breath and kill themselves. More whales in dolphins who are in captivity choose to die than any other way.
At the rate we are going more animals will become extinct from 1980-2045 than in the last 65 million years and we only have our selves to blame for that.
There are rules and regulations about whaling now, however, there is no one to enforce it. And even more sad than that.. countries are trying to negotiate with the UN to make whaling legal again.
